With its long history, Turkey has produced many different denominations of gold coins. Due to the Arabic style Turkish inscriptions of most earlier coins, most western collectors ignore Turkish gold coins. Modern Turkish coins are not as easy to identify either.
This translates to collectors of Turkish coins being able find many relatively cheap coins, which may include rare and valuable items. With this mixture of history and heritage, it’s no surprise that this country has produced numerous denominations of money. The Turkish Gold Coins happen to be a crowd favorite.

They call their currencies as Piastres or Kurush and Lire. These coins range from 25 to 500 Piastres. The heaviest Turkish Gold Coins are under the denomination of 500 Piastres or Kurush. It weighs 39 grams with gold content of 1.0638. This kind of coin is indeed precious especially to its people and of course, to the gold coin collectors. The 500 Piastres have two sizes – the 34 millimeter one and the 44.5 millimeter type.
The 25 Piastres on the other hand is perhaps one of the lightest Turkish Gold Coins ever made. It weighs only 1.8 grams and contains only 0.05 troy ounce of gold. In 1982, the government released a collector’s item gold coin worth 10,000 Lire to commemorate the UNICEF Child of the Year. This commemorative gold coin garnered a perfect luster and weighed around 17 grams but with just a 0.4900 gold content. Nevertheless, this is indeed tagged as a priced collection.
