The American Buffalo Gold coin’s reverse and obverse designs feature images originally designed by American sculptor James Earle Fraser, who was once a student of Augustus Saint-Gaudens, for America’s 5-cent nickel coin. That popular coin, known as the Indian Head, or Buffalo, nickel was introduced in 1913 and shows off the beauty of the American West.

The Native American design on the coins obverse is said to be based on three different American Indians. Two of the American Indians who modeled for Fraser's coin were named by him before his death. They were known as Chief Two Moons of the Cheyenne and Chief Iron Tail of the Lakota Sioux.

Although many others have claimed to have had modeled for Fraser for this design, he unfortunately could not remember the name of the third person and positive proof documentation has not been found yet to identify that individual. It's believed that the bison on the coin's reverse was modeled after Black Diamond, a popular attraction at the New York Zoological Gardens.

For the many enthusiasts and gold collectors, this coin can be a remarkable part of your collection or investment. The gold content of this coin is guaranteed to contain the true weight statement. This could indeed be a precious and unique part of your collection.
